Inspectors to Make Unannounced Checks at Hospitals in Hungary Due to 'Patients Only on Paper' Issue
The Interior Ministry is sending inspectors to make unannounced visits to hospitals to confirm the presence of medical staff during scheduled working hours and whether patients are present and are receiving the treatment indicated by the hospital in their invoices sent to the state.

While patients will not undergo formal checks, their presence will be visually monitored.

László Szijjártó, president of the Győr-Moson-Sopron county medical chamber, expressed scepticism, stating that these checks will not address long-standing issues such as staff shortages and funding problems in hospitals.

Questions remain regarding potential actions if hospitals are found to have patients only on paper, especially as many hospitals are already heavily indebted, Szijjártó added.
